"Bismil ki mehfil" is an Urdu phrase that roughly translates to "the gathering or assembly of Bismil."

Bismil is a common name in the Urdu language, and it could refer to many individuals. However, the phrase "Bismil ki mehfil" is commonly associated with the Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter, Ashfaqulla Khan, also known as Ashfaqullah Khan Bismil.

Ashfaqulla Khan was born on 22 October 1897 in Uttar Pradesh, India. He was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), which was a group of revolutionaries who aimed to overthrow British colonial rule in India.

In 1925, Ashfaqulla Khan and his comrades planned and executed a train robbery to obtain funds for their revolutionary activities. However, the plan failed, and Ashfaqulla Khan was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. He was hanged on 19 December 1927, along with two other HSRA members.

"Bismil ki mehfil" is a tribute to Ashfaqulla Khan and his revolutionary spirit. It refers to the gatherings of like-minded individuals who share his passion for freedom and justice.

Sufi music has a rich history in India, with its roots tracing back to the arrival of Sufi saints in the country around the 12th century. Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam, has always been a significant part of Indian culture and has influenced various art forms, including music.

The devotional poetry of Sufi saints such as Amir Khusrau, Baba Bulleh Shah, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, among others, has inspired a unique style of music that blends Indian classical and folk music with Sufi lyrics. This style of music is known as Qawwali.

Qawwali is a form of devotional music that originated in the Indian subcontinent and is performed by groups of musicians called qawwals. The lyrics of Qawwali are usually in Urdu, Punjabi, or Persian and focus on themes of love, devotion, and spiritual awakening.

The most famous exponent of Qawwali in India was the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who popularized the genre worldwide. Other notable Qawwali performers in India include the Sabri Brothers, Fareed Ayaz, and Abu Mohammad.

Apart from Qawwali, Sufi music has also influenced other genres of music in India, such as ghazals, bhajans, and sufi rock. Many contemporary Indian musicians, such as A.R. Rahman and Kailash Kher, have incorporated Sufi elements into their music, creating a unique fusion of traditional and modern styles.

Overall, Sufi music has played a significant role in India's cultural heritage and continues to inspire.
